During the Spring 2018 semester, I was enrolled in Concepts in Art Education (ART 325). This course provided a lot of insight on methodologies related to building an effective art curriculum for me to use as I enter my professional teaching practice. Through reading, writing, research, and discussion, I learned how to implement these art education teaching strategies effectively so that all of our students are able to explore and learn artistic practices. Along with this intellectually challenging, yet rewarding coursework, I taught five classes to students from Cooper Home and Fossil Ridge High School as part of the service learning aspect of the course. This particular group of students were young adults with special abilities. It was a joy and honor to work with and teach these students, and the service learning portion of the class was an excellent way for me to see how the concepts we addressed in this class are applicable to an actual teaching practice.
